Striker Hunt Is On

16 January 2015

U's working to replace departing Freddie.

The U's are on the hunt for a new striker, following today's news of Freddie Sears' departure to Ipswich.

Freddie signed for Town on Friday lunchtime, but the U's are already on the lookout for a replacement.

Boss Tony Humes said: "We always have lists of players we are interested in.

"As soon as it became obvious that Freddie would be on his way, we began the process of replacing him.

"He deserves a crack at the next level and we all wish him well for the future."

"His workrate and overall performances have been excellent for us and he will be missed.

"Freddie has got a two in one goal scoring ratio but his game is about much more than just scoring," he added.

The Sears' transfer to Ipswich went through on Friday morning and Humes paid tribute to his top scorer.

"We have already made inquiries into the availability of a number of players and we will continue to do that."
