U's Flash: Porter Signs

22 January 2015

Blades striker joins on a permanent basis.

Chris joins the U's after agreeing a cancellation of his contract with Sheffield United on Thursday.

Colchester United are delighted to confirm the signature of striker Chris Porter, who has signed an eighteen month contract with the club.

The 31-year-old brings plenty of experience to the Weston Homes Community Stadium ranks, having played 395 games (275 starts) in all competitions since making his debut for Bury back in 2003.

The front man, who stands at 6'1, has scored regularly during his career and currently has 111 goals to his name.

In 2005, he moved to Oldham from Bury for £150,000 and, in the 2006/7 season, he rewarded the Latics with 22 goals.

That earned him a move to the Scottish Premier League with Motherwell, and he grabbed 18 in 42 games that season. He was to spend two years in Scotland, before Derby County snapped him up for £400,000.

Two further years with the Rams saw him go to Sheffield United on a free transfer and he will be a name that U's fans recognise, as he scored the winning penalty in last season's FA Cup game at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.

Chris will wear number 42 and we look forward to seeing him in action for the U's.
