Boss Pleased With Move

2 June 2015

Tony happy to land Brindley; further talks underway.

After allowing a number of players to leave the club at the end of the season, Richard is the first incoming deal of the close season and Tony was happy to have got his man.

Colchester United boss Tony Humes is pleased to have moved his summer rebuilding on another step with the signing of Richard Brindley.

He said: "Richard has committed himself to us, which is fantastic.

"He came in and fitted in very well with the squad and he showed that he is a good quality player. He needs to play games, and we can give him that opportunity.

"He was part of that last eight to ten games, where we found the consistency we needed, both in terms of performance and selection.

"He showed himself to be a solid character and he is exactly the type of player we need. I believe more games he plays, the better he's going to get."

With Richard secured, Tony will now concentrate on other areas of the team that need strengthening ahead of the first game of the season in August.

The U's boss has had a strong record in the transfer market so far and is keen to make further additions.

He reflected: "The phone hasn't stopped since the end of the season, the games are now finished and there are a lot of players available and being touted around.

"They have gone away to consider what's on offer - they are three decent players with a bit more experience and we hope we can get them over the line."

"They are very impressed with the structure of the club and we are talking to them about what we can offer.

"We have spoken to three further players, who have been in and seen the surroundings at the training ground and the stadium.
