U's goalkeeper can't wait to get started.
The U's ended the campaign with a run of results that saw them win five and draw three of their last ten games, a sequence that placed them fourth in League One over that period.
And, having been paired with Reading in the Capital One Cup on Tuesday, Sam is itching to get back and pull on his gloves.
Speaking about the match against the Royals, he told the official website: "I think it’s a good draw and a good opportunity to test ourselves early in the season against a team from the league above and a big team in that division.
"It will be nice to carry on where we left off at home and to take that into the new season.
"It is well documented that we've struggled at home in the last couple of seasons, so it would be good to hit the ground running with some early positive results at home, including that game against Reading."
The news of the cup tie - and the soon to be released 2015/16 fixture list - comes at a time where Season Tickets are selling strongly ahead of the new season.
Totals have been very encouraging and Sam was delighted to hear that fans were enthused by a strong conclusion to last season.
"It's fantastic to hear that sales are going so well," he added.
"The stadium has been so much better when the atmosphere is lively and the one that stands out is the Preston game which was a phenomenal day for all concerned.
"We've been a bit inconsistent at home, but we showed at the end of the season that there's genuine talent in the squad and real reasons to be excited for the new season. Hopefully we can carry on that upward trend."
