U's Seeking Midfielder

24 June 2015

Boss is readying replacement as Fox opts against return.

.Colchester United boss Tony Humes has his eyes on a midfield addition ahead of the new season

The U's manager is currently in talks with two midfielders as he looks to bolster his ranks, with the news that David Fox will not be returning to the club next season.

After successfully leading the club to safety last season, David has opted to try and find a club in his native north west.

However, it was something that the U's management team had been aware that could happen and plans are already well underway to find his replacement.

"We're looking to bring someone in in the defensive midfield area. We are talking to a couple of players, and this is hopefully something we can get resolved very soon.

With Fox not returning, Tony is keen to bring in a defensive midfielder over the next few weeks.

"He was keen to get back playing and he helped the team to safety, so we thank him for that."

"He committed a lot to us last season in being away from his family, but he did a fantastic job for us.

"David's family are settled in the north west, so he had a big decision to make. We did talk about a contract but unfortunately we couldn't quite come to an agreement," Tony admitted.

It is also hoped that two further moves should be completed by the time the players return to pre-season next week.

Tony has already signed two defenders in close season with Matthew Briggs and Richard Brindley converting their loan deals to permanent moves.

"We have been prepared and had a list of players we'd compiled through the season, and there are those options that we are now working on."

"David's situation is something we've been well aware of for a while now, so it's not caught us by surprise.
