Goals Galore

12 May 2015

Play-off game offers up goalfest - but how do the U's compare?

Fans of League One football were left enthralled on Monday night, as Swindon and Sheffield United shared ten goals in ninety minutes in a remarkable play-off semi-final.

That 5-5 result saw the Robins progress to the play-off final against Preston North End later this month.

But how do Colchester United games compare?

There have only been five instances of there being ten goals in a game involving the U's, and we've come out on top in four of them.

There have also been eleven occasions on which nine goals have been scored in a game, with six of those occurring since the U's inclusion in the Football League from 1950 onwards.

This season saw one of those nine goal thrillers, with Tony Humes' men grabbing six in the FA Cup win away at Gosport Borough (pictured).
