Praise For Cup Win

Attitude pleases coach McGreal

A young U's side brushed aside AFC Hornchurch, progressing into the next round of the Essex senior Cup.

It was an U21s side that took on the non-leaguers, and boss John Mcgreal was most pleased with the attitude his young chargers showed.

"With no disrespect, our lads should be technically better and fitter than them but you need to make a strong start and have the right mindset in these games.

"You can make it really hard for yourselves if you start sloppy but we were the exact opposite.

"We started on fire and got three goals in the opening twelve minutes, which would certainly knocked their confidence a bit."

The U's continued to dominate the first half but couldn't add any further goals before the break.

That changed in the second half, with the U's hitting five to please McGreal even more.

"At half time, we asked them to go out and be positive again and that's what they did.

"We have been unlucky not to score more in previous games so it was great that we finished a good proportion of our chances this time round.

"It could have been more if I'm honest but it was a great night's work, from what is still a young side. We were expected to win, I asked them to go and win and they won well."
