Midfielder grabs his second for Braintree in latest win.

"They've been winning a lot of games recently and scoring a lot of goals, so hopefully I can help," said Szmodics on joining the side. 

The 20-year-old has made 49 appearances for the U's since coming through their youth ranks, but having only played six times this season, he has been allowed to leave for regular football and to get his fitness up before the busy Christmas period.

Sammie has joined the National League side on an initial one-month loan deal.

Colchester United midfielder Sammie Szmodics was on the mark again on Saturday to help Braintree to another win.

Next up for Sammie - who isn't eligible to play in the FA Cup replay at Oxford - is a home game against Kidderminster this Saturday.

Sammie's goal was the final one of the match, as he lobbed a sixth to end the scoring at the 57th minute.

The win included goals from Sammie Szmodics and Alex Woodyard, a hat-trick from Michael Cheek and a penalty from Kenny Davis ensuring that Sean Tuton's brace and Jordan Burrow's goal weren't enough for The Shaymen.
