Player Watch: Port Vale

22 October 2015

We take a look at the winger Callum Harriott's MOTM performance.

Callum Harriott received the man of the match award and rightly so as he looked dangerous going forward but ran tirelessly tracking back, in what was a busy performance from the tricky winger.
Player Watch: Callum Harriott

Kieran Baldwin takes a look at the performance of Callum Harriott, who picked up the Man of the Match award in the midweek win.
Colchester United picked up all three points on Tuesday night to move back up into the top half of the League One table.

15 Minutes: The U's first good chance came as a result of Harriott's work as he beat his man and was fouled. The resulting free kick landed at the feet of Tom Eastman but his shot was cleared off the line.

25 Minutes: Harriot linked up well with lone striker Marvin Sordell, before his ball across the box was cleared for a corner.

25 Minutes: GOAL 1-0 to Colchester! The U's take the lead from the resulting corner as George Elokobi finished superbly after the corner wasn't cleared.

40 Minutes: Harriott was involved once again down the left hand side, this time linking up with George Moncur but his shot was straight at the keeper.

43 minutes: Harriott showed the other side to his game as worked hard to close down the Port Vale defender. Colchester eventually regain possession and the crowd appreciate the tenacity of the young winger.

45 minutes: GOAL 1-1! Port Vale equalised on the brink of half time through Colin Daniel.

1-1 was the score as the sides entered the break and the U's knew they would have to come out on the front foot to ensure they regained their lead in the second half.

51 minutes: It became clear that Port Vale had highlighted Harriott as the danger man as he now had three players surrounding him after receiving the ball. Harriott does well to retain possession and the U's start another attack.

57 Minutes: Colchester started another attack and Harriott had switched wings to the right side. More direct running at his fullback meant he was able to cross. Unfortunately the defender cleared before Darren Ambrose could get there.

59 minutes: Harriott again showed why he is becoming a fans' favourite as he tracked back to help his defence out. This time he got himself between the ball and the onrushing attacker and was fouled to relieve the pressure.

61 minutes: Harriott's influence on the game was growing as time ticked on and this time he linked with Moncur. Moncur's shot was blocked. Harriott was finding pockets of space as the game became more stretched.

66 minutes: The only personal low moment in the game for Harriott as he was booked for stopping a quick Free kick.

73 minutes: GOAL 2-1! Colchester regained the lead after the ball fell to Sordell after Moncur was brought down in the area. Sordell tucked the ball home confidently.

77 minutes: Harriott shows no signs of tiredness as he received the ball midway inside his own half. He then showed a great turn of pace to run past two Port Vale midfielder before sliding a great through ball to Sordell. Unfortunately this time he was denied by the onrushing keeper.

78 minutes: Callum Harriott's best defensive moment of the game as he put in a fantastic block to stopped a cross-come-shot heading goal bound into his area.

85 minutes: This time the roles were reversed as Sordell slipped Harriott through but he was denied by the keeper as he rushed towards goal.

89 minutes: Harriott was so unlucky not to add a goal to his superb performance as he cut in from right, weaved in and out of several Port Vale defenders before curling the ball from 25 yards out and hitting the post. This was another example of the winger showing great footwork and looked destined to wrap up the game.
