7 minutes - A counter from the corner was led by George Moncur. He laid the ball through to Darren Ambrose whose cross come shot was put over by Marvin Sordell. This chance came as a result of Moncur's direct running at the heart of the Walsall defence.
11 minutes - Goal: Walsall take the lead against the run of play, Colchester were on top.
15 minutes - The goal forced Colchester onto the back foot slightly and meant Moncur had to come deep to receive the ball. The U's needed to push him further up the pitch.
18 minutes - A good move down the right fell to Moncur. He cut it back to Alex Gilbey but his curling effort was tipped over by the keeper.
20 minutes - Moncur and Callum Harriott combined down the left and his shot was deflected to Darren Ambrose. He put it back across goal but Sordell couldn’t quite reach it. Colchester are creating chances but failing to finish them.
28 minutes - George Moncur played a one-two with Sordell and was slipped through but he decided to cut back inside and a defender made the block. A sign that Moncur favoured his right foot, but this was something he would put right later in the game.
30 minutes - Goal, against the run of play once again. A deflected shot from the edge of the area makes it 2-0 to Walsall.
34 minutes - Moncur showed his defensive qualities as he helped out in midfield to regain possession.
43 minutes - A good ball from Moncur found Harriott on the left and he cuts inside but his shot was deflected wide. Colchester looked most likely to create something through the flair of Moncur and Harriott but it was a frustrating half for the U's.

49 minutes - GOAL! MONCUR. Ambrose cut inside and picked out Moncur, he took one touch and bends the ball into the top corner with his left foot. A sign of how gifted Moncur is using either foot and the quality that the U's were desperate for. He deserved this goal for his first half efforts.
52 minutes - GOAL! 2-2! Great chipped ball for Garvan found Ambrose over the top, his cut back was tapped in by Sordell. Moncur's goal gave the players and crowd a boost and the atmosphere is now electric.
57 minutes - Goal for Walsall. They retake the lead after Colchester had worked so hard to get back in the game.
60 minutes - GOAL for Colchester! A corner was punched clear to Garvan who half volleyed the ball in brilliant from 25 yards. The scoreline is now 3-3.
66 minutes - Moncur's confidence in clear to see again as he tried a chip from the angle but he didn't quite get enough on it and the keeper made the save.
73 minutes - George Moncur drives down the middle of the pitch and plays it into space for Harriott, who cuts it back for Moncur but he curling effort went over. Once again good link up between those two and they seem to have a real understanding on where each other are.
77 minutes - Moncur's driven ball picks out Sordell but his touch into Gilbey was too heavy.
80 minutes - GOAL Colchester, 4-3! Darren Ambrose tapped in after a great run from Harriott. He took on his man down the outside and his cross come shot was tapped home by Ambrose.
88 minutes – George Moncur is taken off after another fantastic display and the fans sung his name as he left the pitch to show their appreciation.
91 minutes - Goal, it was Walsall's time to equalise after they piled on the pressure to make it 4-4.
Full time: Colchester United 4-4 Walsall, The game ends in a draw but there could have been lots more goals as chance after chance was created. The way Colchester responded was a sign of real team spirit and a never say die attitude which should see the U's compete with every team this year.
