Lewington Leaves U's

3 September 2015

Goalkeeper departs by mutual consent.

Colchester United have parted company with goalkeeper Chris Lewington.

The 27-year-old has found his first team opportunities limited during his time at the U's and has now left the club after having his contract cancelled by mutual consent.

His departure before the conclusion of the transfer window on Tuesday means that he is now free to find himself a new club.

Boss Tony Humes said: "We agreed at the end of last season with Chris that either he could find a new club or, if not, we'd take a decision on what's best for his future.

"He's been great around the club, but it was tough for him as a reasonably experienced goalkeeper not to be getting game time."

"We got towards the end of the transfer window and he decided that it's best for him to look for pastures new. I'm not sure he has anywhere lined up just yet, but we were keen to honour our agreement.

Chris made two appearances in the U's first team as he deputised for Sam Walker, and we wish him all the best for his future career.
