U21s Beat QPR

26 April 2016

Young U's finish the season on a high.

Colchester United's U21s finished an excellent season on a high, as they beat QPR 1-0 at Loftus Road.

The U's end the campaign in fourth place in Development League Two, with 51 points from 29 games.

After a bright start, the visitors took the lead when Femi Akinwande was tripped in the box, and picked himself up to slot the penalty home in the eleventh minute.

Dillon Barnes was then a key player for the U's, repelling Rangers' efforts as they looked to get back into the game.

He pulled a good stop out to deny Petrasso midway through the half and the U's retained their advantage at the interval.

Barnes then denied Manning around the hour mark, but Akinwande tested the home keeper Lumley with fifteen minutes to go as the U's created an opportunity of their own.

Whilst the home side kept prompting and probing, the U's were not to be quelled themselves, and Chris Regis looked set to score a second only to be denied by a great challenge.

Another clean sheet for the young U's ensured a good win and plenty to be positive about for next season.
