U's Win In Sheffield

4 April 2016

Akinwande double ends Blades unbeaten run.

Colchester United's U21s continued their impressive 2016 on Monday afternoon, as they recorded a 2-0 win against Sheffield United.

The Blades have enjoyed an excellent season and currently sit top of the northern section of Development League Two, on the back of a seventeen game unbeaten run.

But a Femi Akinwande double was enough to give the U's all three points in another positive display on Monday.

The U's flew out of the blocks up in Yorkshire and enjoyed a positive start to the game.

They had had a series of chances in that first half before Akinwande drilled one into the top corner to give the U's the lead just after the half hour mark.

They could have been further ahead at half time, but had to wait until midway through the second half to double their advantage.

The U's built a good move down the right hand side and when a low cross came into the area, Akinwande was on hand once again to convert from close range.

The rain then began to fall, but it didn't knock the U's out of their stride, and it was only a late chance in the match that almost denied the U's a clean sheet.

Substitute De Girolamo hit the bottom of the post but it wasn't to be the Blades' day as the U's continue to push for second spot.
