Central defender is the U's new club captain.
Colchester United Head Coach John McGreal has confirmed that he has selected Luke Prosser to be club captain for the new season.
28-year-old centre half Luke was one of seven senior summer signings for the U's and has quickly established himself as a leader within the first team squad.
And John told Luke and the rest of the squad his decision ahead of training on Thursday morning.
Luke brings with him a wealth of experience, having been promoted twice out of this division in his career so far.
Speaking on Thursday, Luke said: "In the back of my mind I thought there was a chance when I signed, but I just wanted to get on with my football first and foremost.
"I am delighted to be given the armband. I am a vocal player anyway and I will be encouraging the boys around me.
"There'll be more for me to do off the pitch, but I am really looking forward to it."
