U's Beat Town

11 August 2016

U21s win 1-0 at Ipswich.

Colchester United have beaten Ipswich 1-0 in the final U21s friendly of the pre-season build-up.

Wayne Brown's side head to Hull on Monday in their season opener, and had a valuable ninety minutes at Playford Road to prepare for the game.

Macauley Bonne scored the only goal, turning in a cross from wideman Dion Sembie-Ferris.

The duo, who had both been on the bench for the U's first team on Tuesday night, played forty five minutes to keep their fitness levels high and combined well for the goal.

There were ninety minute workouts for a number of the U's youngsters, which pleased boss Wayne Brown.

He said after the game: "It was a great workout for us and a good test against Ipswich."

"The plan was to get ninety minutes into all the lads this week and with the game on Monday and this one today, we have managed that.

"The goal was pleasing as well, because it is something we have been working on in training.

"Dion got on the end of a good switch ball and then Macca did well to be on the end of Dion's dangerous cross.

"The whole idea is to be ready for next week's game at Hull and I think we are now."
