U23s finish the year on a high.
Colchester United U23s finished the year on a high on Monday afternoon, as they beat Charlton Athletic 2-1.
The U's goals came from Decarrey Sheriff and Aaron Cosgrave as they toppled the table toppers in the final game of 2016.
Sheriff's goal came after just six minutes, as he headed home early on to put the U's in front.
Whilst the Addicks sought a way back into the game, they were unable to break down a resilient U's and the visitors went into the break in front.
And the U's doubled their advantage on 57 minutes. Charley Edge was the man with the assist, sending over a cross that Cosgrave converted.
The two goal margin was not to last long, however.
Ahearne-Grant sprinted down the left for Charlton and squared it for Umerah who slid home from virtually on the goal line.
The U's stayed strong for the remainder of the game, though, and recorded a 2-1 victory.
It completed a double over Charlton U23s this season - the only two times that the Addicks have lost in the Development League in 2016/17.
There's a short break over the festive period for the U23s now, with the next game the Essex Senior Cup game against East Thurrock United on January 4th.
Please note that Tuesday's planned Central League Cup game against Southend has been postponed. A new date will be confirmed in due course. CENTRAL LEAGUE CUP:
