Striker converts penalty for U21s win.

Colchester United U21s bounced back from last week's defeat to beat Ipswich Town 1-0 at Florence Park.

Up against a strong Town side, the U's made it three wins out of four in 2016 with that single goal victory and, in doing so, completed the double over Town having already won 3-0 in the reverse fixture.

Chances were at a premium in the first half, with Luke Varney hitting the post for Town and Femi Akinwande having two good chances for John McGreal's men.

And it was Akinwande who continued his recent good run of form with the crucial moment in the game with just five minutes to go.

He was brought down by Town captain Joe Robinson in the box and, after the Blues skipper saw red, Akinwande kept his calm to convert the penalty.

The match also saw Michael O'Donoghue get 45 minutes under his belt as he continued his road to recovery from long term injury.
