Hitting The Right Note

26 January 2016

Local bands to feature on weekend playlist.

"We announced the news on Facebook and got bombarded with suggestions. However, I’ve used this opportunity to play some big tunes, largely stuff you’ll have heard before but amongst it all you’ll find some great music from local bands.

He said: "When Colchester United got in touch to see if I’d select some tunes to play in the build up to this huge FA Cup match against Tottenham I didn’t need asking twice.

Ben, who organises a host of top musical events around the town, including at The Arts Centre, The Waiting Room and more, has created a great mix of tunes for Saturday's game.

Aiming to build up the atmosphere ahead of kick-off, we've recruited local music guru Ben Howard to put together the weekend playlist.

Colchester United will be aiming to hit the right note on and off the pitch on Saturday when they take on Tottenham Hotspur in the Emirates FA Cup.

"All an all, you’ve got 85 minutes of tunes leading up to kick off - my set includes the likes of Blur, New Town Kings, The Clash, Animal Noise, The Stone Roses; proper good stuff.

"Listen out for Tropic of Xhao’s cover of Eagle of Death Metal’s ‘I Love You All The Time’ from Tom Donovan’s Paix project.

"The project is raising money for the victims of the Paris attacks including the family of one of Colchester’s music comrades, Nick Alexander, who tragically lost his life in Paris.

"The music you’ll here on Saturday is what you’ll hear when I DJ - in fact you’ll find me at Twisters Bar in Colchester on Saturday night playing classics from 9pm alongside Sam Leppard.

"It’s been a genuine pleasure to dig out these records for you for Saturday. Enjoy the music and of course the match!"
