A Macauley Bonne double ensured that Colchester United U21s made it two wins out of two in 2016.
The U's had fallen behind at the Bees' Jersey Road training ground, but towards the end of the first half, Macauley got up highest to head home Dion Sembie-Ferris' cross to level things up.
Then, just after the hour, he put the U's in front as his shot took a deflection to wrongfoot the home goalkeeper.
It means that the U's youngsters have started the new year on the front foot and will be looking forward to next week's Essex Senior Cup Quarter Final against Bowers & Pitsea.
