Southend Up Next

29 July 2016

U's head to Blues for final friendly

The U's head to  Southend on Saturday for their final friendly.

Roots Hall plays host as John Mcgreal makes his final preparations ahead of the first league game next weekend.

That will see the U's travel to the North West to take on Craig Hignett's Hartlepool United.

This weekend, McGreal's players all be keen to put themselves in contention for a starting place by performing well against our Essex rivals.

McGreal keeps a similar squad that has completed the previous friendlies, with no fresh injury worries for the trip to the south Essex coast.

A notable absentee from this game, and the previous few, is Matt Briggs - he will miss out with a hip injury that looks likely to need surgery.

The likes of Sam Walker, Tom Eastman and Sammie Szmodics, who all suffered long term injuries last season, are fit and ready and will be fighting for one of those eleven starting places at Victoria Road on August 6th.

U's: Walker, Bransgrove, Brindley, Vincent-Young, Eastman, Kent, Prosser, Elokobi, Wynter, Kinsella, Lapslie, Garvan, Loft, Wright, Slater, Szmodics, Dickenson, Sembie-Ferris, Guthrie, Johnstone, Porter, Bonne.
