U's Win In Wales

14 July 2016

Three more goals seal victory.

Colchester United kept up their winning run in pre-season so far, as they ran out 3-2 winners in Wales against Airbus UK Broughton.

They fell behind early in the first half, as an eleventh minute strike from Kevin Monteiro put the ball past Dillon Barnes.

But the visitors were behind for just seven minutes, as Sammie Szmodics turned provider for Chris Porter to turn home from close range for his second goal this week.

The U's kept pressing but, as in the earlier two friendlies, they stepped things up after the interval.

They created a host of chances in the second half, and it was Brennan Dickenson who set up the goal for Kurtis Guthrie to convert.

Drey Wright, who returned to the pitch as a second half sub after his first half performance, struck home a third with a deflected shot.

Dickenson then looked like he might extend the advantage but was ruled offside as he scored late on, before Airbus pulled one back through a triallist at the end of the match.

It finished 3-2 for the U's, who will now have another couple of days of preparations in the north west before returning for the club's Open Day on Sunday.

U's first half: Barnes, Brindley, Wynter, Elokobi, O'Donoghue, Loft, Slater, Wright, Szmodics, Sembie-Ferris, Porter

U's second half: Barnes (Bransgrove 60), Vincent-Young, Kent, Prosser, Wynter (Sembie-Ferris 67), Lapslie, Slater (Wright 67), Dickenson, Guthrie, Bonne, Johnstone
