Bjorn's Special Day

1 March 2016

Swedish fan enjoys VIP treatment.

A dream came true for a 9-year-old Swedish Colchester United fan as he had his own private tour of the Weston Homes Community Stadium.

Björn Foxley, lives in Sweden with his Swedish mother Anna and British father Tim and became a U's fan through Tim's family links and his love of playing Fifa on his PS3. Björn loved to play as FC Barcelona and Manchester United, with all the finances and star players that comes with it, but Dad Tim suggested he plays with a team that doesn't enjoy all the success of a top European club.

Tim's family links – his mother and two brothers live in Colchester, with brother Nick working part time at the stadium – prompted Björn to pick the U's and after many hours of playing, he became familiar with all the players (from the 2014/15 season), the stadium and some of the history of the club, and asked if he could visit the stadium, and buy some merchandise when they were next flying over.

Nick Foxley contacted U's General Manager Tim Waddington who was only too happy to help and after flying over this week, Björn collected his shirt and other merchandise, and with the help of Head of Catering, Karl Smith, was shown around the changing rooms, media room, was able to go pitchside, view the hospitality suites, players' lounge and executive boxes.

Back in Malmö, Sweden,  Björn goes to Mellanhed school and plays for FC Bellevue as he has for the past three years, firstly as a striker wearing the number seven shirt, but latterly as a right back.

Next training session, he'll be able to show off his new U's kit to his school friends and team mates, as the latest addition to the U's contingent of Swedish fans. His United flag now hangs in his bedroom and he has worn his United home strip shirt ever since, despite mother's pleas to wash it!
