Lionel Announces Support

15 March 2016

Corinne Bailey Rae comes to Colchester.

Corinne Bailey Rae performed last month at the Grammy MusiCares Tribute concert honouring Lionel Richie as their 'Performer Of The Year', alongside the likes of Stevie Wonder, Dave Grohl, John Legend, Rihanna and Florence Welch.

With his concert at the Weston Homes Community Stadium just over three months away, international superstar Lionel Richie has announced Corinne Bailey Rae as special guest on his UK tour this Summer.

Starting on June 14th, Lionel will perform open air concerts in parts of the UK he’s never visited before including St Austell, Swansea, Colwyn Bay, Colchester and Gloucester as well as shows in Sheffield, Manchester, London and Birmingham.

Lionel's concerts are world-renowned for their party atmosphere and audiences will be able to join Lionel in singing along to all the hits from his extensive and much loved repertoire spanning decades – all the way from the Commodores to the present day – including classics such as 'Hello', 'Easy', 'Dancing On The Ceiling', 'Say You Say Me', 'Three Times a Lady' and 'All Night Long'.

Lionel Richie said: "I always have a great time when I'm in the UK and I'm really pleased Corinne is going to be joining me on tour for these special shows."

Corinne will release her new album 'The Heart Speaks In Whispers' on May 13th which will be her first collection of new material for six years.

Recorded both at her studio in Leeds, and in Los Angeles the album is rich in fresh ideas and full of emotional energy surging through its songs like electricity. Corinne has received critical acclaim throughout her career including two Grammy Awards, two MOBO Awards and three BRIT Award nominations.

Corinne Bailey Rae: "I've always been a huge fan of Lionel Richie. His music has sound-tracked many moments of my life. It's an honour to be asked to join him on his British tour."

The UK fell back in love with Lionel last year following a tour that received glittering re-views and culminated in a phenomenal Glastonbury performance.

After drawing the biggest crowd of the weekend with over 150,000 people flocking to the Pyramid Stage, Lionel's album 'The Definitive Collection' reached Number 1 on the UK album charts for the first time in 23 years.

Lionel went on to receive British GQ's Icon Award adding to a celebrated career which includes four GRAMMYs, a Golden Globe and even an Oscar. Having sold over 100 million albums worldwide, Lionel shows no signs of slowing down.
