U's Grab Palace Win

7 March 2016

Young side come from behind to win.

Colchester United U21s picked up an impressive three points in their latest away day, as they came from behind to beat Crystal Palace.

The Eagles named a strong side, with Julian Speroni, Adrian Mariappa, Martin Kelly and Marouane Chamakh all in the starting eleven for the match at Selhurst Park.

An evenly contested first half saw the home side take a one goal advantage into the break as, after chances for Chamakh and Femi Akinwande, Victor Funde gave the Eagles the lead on the half hour mark as he fired into the bottom corner.

The U's looked like they might be heading to a narrow defeat, but got their rewards in keeping going forward until the final knockings of the match.

First, Louis Dunne sent a brilliant effort into the top corner to draw the U's level and, only a minute later, Akinwande squared for Macauley Bonne to put the visitors in front for the first time.

Dillon Barnes pulled off a good stop to preserve that advantage and the U's picked up a positive result to consolidate their third spot in the table.
