U's Secure Macron Deal

25 March 2016

New technical sponsor signs five year deal.

Colchester United will be taking to the pitch with a new look next season, after the U's announced they will be teaming up with Italy's premier technical sportswear label Macron from the start of the 2016/17 campaign.

The Weston Homes Community Stadium side have signed a five year deal with Macron to join their stable of professional football clubs from across Europe.

Among Macron's current crop of clubs are Aston Villa, Crystal Palace and Bolton Wanderers in England, Lazio and Bologna in Italy, Sporting Clube de Portugal in Portugal and Hadjuk Split in Croatia.

Tim Waddington, General Manager at Colchester United said: "We are delighted to be teaming up with Macron. When deciding on who to work with next, their attention to detail, their customer service and most importantly the quality of their product really stood out.

"We are really excited about the new partnership and the new kits to be released this summer are a real statement of intent from Macron about the quality and style of kits that our players and supporters can expect in the coming years.!

The new deal with Macron will see the U’s first team and Academy players and community team provided with first class match kit, training wear and leisure wear.

The Italian company will also help provide a new look for the stadium club shop, as they show their commitment to the Essex side.

Macron Country Manager, Andrea Palilla added: "We are honoured to start this relationship with such a prestigious club as Colchester United.

"Our designers will work closely together with the club to make sure the new kits are technically advanced and stylish and are appreciated by the fans and players.

"This agreement will surely consolidate Macron as a major player in the UK market.

"I am very excited to welcome Colchester United to the Macron family and I want to thank the club General Manager Tim Waddington for making this agreement possible."

Macron was founded in 1971, initially as an exclusive distributor of baseball equipment.

Since then it has gone from strength to strength and, in 1994, it moved into larger premises in Crespellano in Italy, where there is enough room for all of its activities under one roof, - design, prototyping and distribution for baseball, basketball, volleyball and of course, football.

Macron has worked in football for over 15 years now, and its first contract with a top level professional club was with Bologna FC. Since then, the brand has been seen on the official shirts of some of the best and most renowned teams in the world.

In 2014, they also made a big impression in UK football with the naming rights of Bolton Wanderers' stadium.

Fans can expect to see sight of the new look kits in June, with the first opportunity to buy the new designs likely to be at the club’s Open Day on July 17th.
