U's To Spread The Word

15 March 2016

U's to support local knife crime awareness charity.

Colchester United and Only Cowards Carry will be teaming up at the upcoming game against Millwall to spread the word to young fans on the dangers of knife crime.

The Only Cowards Carry team will be at the match on April 2nd to hold workshops in Eddie’s Nest ahead of the clash against the Lions.

U’s Media Manager Matt Hudson said: "We have previously worked with Only Cowards Carry in the past and have always been impressed by the energy and determination that they put into promoting this very important cause.

"Recent events in the town show that there is still a challenge to be overcome locally and Colchester United are proud to be teaming up with the charity to talk to our fans about the dangers of knife crime."

Only Cowards Carry Weapons Awareness was founded in November 2012 by Caroline Shearer in memory of her 17 year old son Jay Whiston, who was fatally stabbed in September 2012.

Continually driven by the devastating loss of Jay, Caroline and the team have worked tirelessly to promote Only Cowards Carry Weapons Awareness in the hope that young people understand the stark facts and devastating, life changing, true reality of knife crime.

Shani Jackson, Managing Director for Only Cowards Carry added: "We are really pleased and excited to be given the opportunity to work alongside Colchester United again.

"Hopefully the day will enable us to raise much needed awareness around Colchester."
