U18s team up with RAF.
Colchester United's stars of the future will be flying high this season, with the news that the club's U18s match kit is to be sponsored by the Royal Air Force (RAF).
The exciting partnership was confirmed this week as the RAF have committed to backing the young U18s players both home and away in 2016/17.
The club's commitment to young players has seen many promising footballers break through into the first team in recent seasons and Academy Manager Jon de Souza is delighted to have the backing of the RAF in the coming months.
Jon said: "We are delighted and thankful for the RAF to be sponsoring us for the coming season.
"We are fully committed and passionate about developing young players for Colchester United, and are extremely grateful that the RAF are supporting our objectives.
"We hope that the RAF will see the benefits of our partnerships in the coming years, when hopefully many of our current youth players progress into our first team."
The Royal Air Force has a strong presence in the East Anglian region, with bases at Honington near Bury St Edmunds and Marham near Kings Lynn, and they were pleased to be lending their support to the young footballers at Florence Park in 2016/17.
Flight Lieutenant Andy Keeley from the Careers Office based in Norwich said: "Football plays a significant role in RAF life, as we recognise its value with teamwork and competitiveness as well as staying fit and enjoying sport.
"I hope that our sponsorship can help Colchester United U18s to enjoy these benefits too and be successful this season and beyond."
The Royal Air Force has elite Men's, Ladies' and Development (U23) teams that compete in the Inter-Services against the Army and Royal Navy, as well as national competitions, overseas tours and friendly fixtures.
Football participation at all levels is also promoted with Inter-Region and RAF Cup competitions, Station and civilian football leagues.
