U's Prepare For Orient

7 November 2016

An action packed day on Saturday.

Colchester United are set for their biggest home crowd of the season so far at Saturday's match against Leyton Orient, as we hold our first Football in the Community Day of the season.

Our community team have put on a wide range of activities for this weekend's crunch fixture against the O's, with both teams looking for a vital three points to kick start their seasons and move back into the top half of League Two.

We will be welcoming over 30 local grassroots football teams to the game against Orient, with hundreds of children attending their first games at the home of Colchester United.

There will be demonstrations of Walking Football and girls college football and we will also welcome participants of our successful CardioActive programme onto the pitch at half time.

"We are very excited to be welcoming so many grassroots football teams to the stadium for next weekend’s game," Football in the Community Development Officer Tom Tayler told us.

"Many of our Academy players and first teamers have started out with local teams, so it will be great to welcome potential stars of the future to the Orient match."

The match will also see us welcome members of the local Army regiments as we commemorate Remembrance Sunday weekend.

We will have a wide range of military vehicles on show for supporters to explore, the Drum Corps band will be in attendance and we will welcome members of the Royal British Legion to the stadium to help us perform the guard of honour pre-match alongside members of the club's young Academy sides.

Essex Police will be here to meet fans in attendance and we will also have Essex Cricket players here with their championship trophy after their recent promotion!

The match will also be our annual Kick It Out fixture, as we once encourage fans young and old to show their support of the campaign to eradicate racism from the sport of football.

A crowd in excess of 5,000 is expected on Saturday and tickets are selling quickly, especially in the East Stand.

So, if you're thinking of coming along, don't forget to get your ticket ahead of the game to save money!
