U's Defeat The Hornets

Colchester United's U23s extended their unbeaten run to three games on Monday afternoon in an action packed match against Watford.

The U's were 2-0 down with just over half an hour gone and also trailed 3-2, before eventually running out 4-3 winners.

The hosts included a number of first team squad members in what was to be a competitive match for the U's youngsters.

Meanwhile, the U's side featured Frankie Kent, Glen Kamara, Dion Sembie-Ferris and Macauley Bonne, whilst Louis Dunne also made a return from his ankle injury.

Watford took the lead when Connor Stevens connected sweetly from close range to beat James Bransgrove after 23 minutes.

One became two when the home side's captain Carl Stewart struck a fine low shot beyond Bransgrove to put the home side in command.

But their advantage was to be halves before the break, as Bonne was fouled in the box and he picked himself up to put the ball past Costel Pantilimon in the Watford net.

Just before the hour mark Dunne, a second half substitute, drew the U's level with a crisp finish.

But the U's were level for just eight minutes this time as Michael Folivi's shot hit the post and then Bransgrove before finding the back of the net.

The U's were not to be deterred though and they got their latest equaliser on 72 minutes when Frankie Kent headed home from Charley Edge's free kick.

And, three minutes later, they were in front for the first time, as George Brown reacted to a Kent flick on from a corner to tuck home.

The U's held their nerve in the final fifteen minutes to record a much deserved victory.
