U's Defeat The Tigers

3 October 2016

Issa goal enough to win first group game.

Colchester United U23s got their Premier League Cup group games underway with a battling 1-0 win against Hull City on Sunday.

Tariq Issa grabbed his second goal of the season against the Tigers on 36 minutes in what proved to be the decisive strike in a closely fought encounter.

The U's protected goalkeeper Dillon Barnes well through the afternoon to get off to a positive start with games against Derby County and Manchester City to come.

The two teams had traded half chances before Issa broke the deadlock, lifting a ball high into the net after it broke to him in the box.

Decarrey Sheriff was a danger for the visiting U's as they looked to extend their lead, but it remained 1-0 at the break.

Issa almost got his second right at the end of the match, but could only force Will Mannion into a great save. However, one goal was enough on this occasion.

U's: Barnes, Ocran, O'Donoghue (Wyatt 82), Diaz Wright (Harrison 87), Peter, Kent (Partridge 75), Brown, Regis, Sheriff, Issa, Edge
