U's Flash: Lloyd Signs

7 October 2016

Experienced defender joins the U's.

Colchester United are pleased to welcome experienced defender Lloyd Doyley to the club on a free transfer.

33-year-old Lloyd brings a wealth of experience to the Weston Homes Community Stadium, having played over 400 times for Watford - all at Championship and Premier League level.

Lloyd was a graduate of the Hornets academy and went on to be a hugely popular player during his time at Vicarage Road, where he played under a host of managers including former U's boss Aidy Boothroyd.

A versatile defender, Lloyd played predominantly as a right back during his time for Watford and helped them to promotion to the Premier League in 2005/6 as they defeated Leeds in the play-offs at Wembley.

After 13 years in Hertfordshire, where he was a constant in the team - averaging 34 games a season - he left in the summer of 2015.

He then had a short stint at Rotherham, helping Neil Warnock's side to safety in the Championship before leaving at the end of last season.

His move will be completed subject to paperwork clearance from the relevant authorities.

A Jamaican international, Lloyd will bring plenty of football knowledge to the U's dressing room and he is expected to be part of the squad for the weekend game against Newport.
