Seven members of the Colchester United Walking Football squad took part in a 40 minute 6- a-side invitation game against their Barnet counterparts to get the day off to a positive start for the side from Essex.
The U's veterans, who reached the national finals after an impressive season last time around, were on the front foot again at the weekend and ran out comfortable 9-3 winners ahead of John McGreal's side drawing 1-1 later in the afternoon.
The match was played in competitive but sporting spirit and this generous gesture by Barnet FITC was greatly appreciated by all the U's Walking Football players who also joined the ranks of hundreds of travelling U's fans in the stands, as hosts of Barnet FC to cheer on our first team.
The walking football game was effectively over as a contest in the first ten minute period with U's hitting four goals without reply, made by some slick one and two touch passing and excellent team play.
To their great credit, Barnet did not lose their enthusiasm or become disheartened and rallied with two goals late on for their efforts.
The U's walking football team hope to replicate the hospitality in February in the reverse fixture and entertain the Barnet Walking Footballers.
The U's squad was: Barry Camm, Mark Gooch, Dave Spurgeon, Jeremy Luff, Kim Bryan, Karl Ranns and Terry Beeton
