Doug Loft made a return to action on Monday afternoon, as the U's U23s took on Cardiff City at Florence Park.
Doug, who has been sidelined for much of the season with injury, played 45 minutes against the Bluebirds in the latest Development League fixture.
Striker Macauley Bonne also got a valuable half under his belt as the U's shared the spoils.
Eoin McKeown, who came off the bench at half time, grabbed the Colchester goal, but the home side were soon pegged back by the visitors.
Both teams pushed for the winner but it was a point apiece as the end of the season draws closer for Wayne Brown's side.
