Player Of The Year

18 April 2017

Time to cast your vote for this year's awards.

Colchester United have enjoyed a productive season, spending the majority of the campaign in the thick of the race for promotion.

Despite experiencing an unprecedented amount of injuries over the past nine months, John McGreal's men have been in the top half of League Two since the end of November and have particularly impressed in their home games in 2016/17.

Their home record is bettered only by promoted Doncaster Rovers, as John, Steve and the players have made the Weston Homes Community Stadium a difficult place to come for visiting sides.

Their tally of points has only been bettered once since our move to the new stadium back in 2008 and it bodes well for next season, whichever division awaits us.

With just three games left, it’s time to turn your attentions to the 2017 Player of the Year votes.

We need your help in three categories:-

1) 2016/17 Official Player of the Year (sponsored by Weston Homes)
The U’s have had a number of strong contenders for the main crown as, at different times in the campaign, a new face has come forth to stake their claim to pick up the Official Player of the Year title. Three players have hit double figures, and there have been some sterling performances in the heart of midfield and in the U’s back line. But who comes out on top? You decide!

2) 2016/17 Young Player of the Year
This award is for players aged 21 or under at the start of the season. We’ve seen our Academy products excel once again in the first team in 2016/17 and there will be a long list of potential winners when you come to cast your vote!

3) 2016/17 Goal of the Season (Sponsored by The Development Network)
With 59 goals scored by the U’s ahead of today’s game v Stevenage, there are some great goals to choose from – sometimes by unexpected players! Which net buster caught your eye over the past few months?

To cast your vote, you can write to us at Media Department, Weston Homes Community Stadium, United Way, Colchester, Essex, CO4 5UP or drop us an e-mail to with your votes and your contact details.

Tickets are now on sale for this year’s event and, like last season, are priced at £66 per person or £600 for a table of ten. With a fantastic meal, great entertainment and the awards themselves, it’s a night you can’t miss out on! To book your spot, give the Commercial team a call on 01206 752020 or e-mail
