11 December 2017

On Thursday 7th December 2017, Thurstable School & Sixth Form officially unveiled their new 3G Synthetic Turf Pitch in the presence of school partners, stakeholders and special guests, including Colchester United defender Frankie Kent.

Participants from Colchester United Football in the Community’s male and female Football College Programmes, Thurstable School’s girls after-school football club and Colchester United’s Academy were on show during the afternoon to mark the occasion.

Football in the Community's Mark Foster said: “The newly laid 3G STP will be of great benefit to both the school and the local community in providing a top class facility for all and will significantly enhance the players' development as a result.”

Miles Bacon, Head Teacher at Thurstable School, added: "Frankie joining us at the opening of our new 3G pitch underlined the partnership between Thurstable and Colchester United that goes back many years, and was a reminder that in the past Colchester and Thurstable teams trained on the pitch have won honours at national and international level.

"Thanks are due to Colchester Borough Council, who more than match funded the school’s investment in renewing the facility. We look forward to another decade of sporting success and community engagement from the brand new surface."
