Stars of the future get U23s insight.

Some of Colchester United's stars of the future got the chance to be a part of the action ahead of the U's U23s game against Manchester City.

Four of the club's U8s pre-academy players were invited to partake in the warm-up with the U23s before the Premier League Cup group game against City.

Lead Foundation Phase Coach Adam Hampson said: "Across this season, we have arranged for all of our U8s pre-academy players to get the chance to warm up and play on the pitch with the U23s squad at the Weston Homes Community Stadium prior to their fixtures.

"Our pre-academy group is hugely important in enabling us to recruit and develop talented youngsters in the area with the aim of them progressing into the Foundation Phase as U9s.

"This experience has helped in getting our youngest players familiarised with the club and made to feel part of the academy as a whole.

The four players and their families who attended last Monday's game against Manchester City of course saw the U's run out 2-1 winners to go top of Group C!

"The boys have enjoyed this opportunity massively and it has been great to watch them interacting with the players and staff on the pitch and playing with a smile on their faces."
