U23s start the year with a win.
Colchester United's U23s got 2017 off to a winning start on Monday, as they defeated Ipswich Town 3-2 at Playford Road.
All five goals came in an action packed first half and the U's extended their advantage over Town in the league to four points as a result of the victory.
The U's raced into a two goal lead in the first half.
First, triallist O'Sullivan scored a cracking free kick after Akinwande had been fouled just outside the penalty area.
Then, ten minutes later, the ball was sent in from out wide, and Akinwande continued his prowess in front of goal by slotting home.
However, Town soon battled back into the match and were level within twelve minutes.
Adam McDonnell scored a good free kick for the Tractor Boys, before the lively Ben Morris levelled things up with a tidy finish.
The first half scoring was not done yet, though, and Louis Dunne edged the U's back in front just before the interval.
The two teams traded opportunities without too many clear cut chances in the second half and it was the U's who ran out victors this time, having drawn 2-2 with Town earlier in the season.
