Chris Is New U18s Boss

5 July 2017

Colchester United have appointed Chris Llewellyn as their new U18s Lead Coach.

Chris joins the U's after previously having been with Swansea City's successful academy and will work with Liam Bailey to nurture the club's young players.

The 37-year-old enjoyed a lengthy playing career, playing for Norwich City for seven years before embarking on a journey which saw him play for Wrexham, Hartlepool United, Grimsby Town and Llanelli.

Having made over 400 professional appearances, he joined Swansea City's academy in 2012 and, two years later, took over the U21s at the Welsh club.

He helped the Swans to win the U21s Development League 2 in 2014/15, before taking charge of the U18s in 2015/16.

He will now look to replicate his good work in Wales with the U's youngsters at Florence Park.

Speaking about taking up the role, Chris said: "I've known Jon De Souza since his time at Brentford. He offered me the chance to talk about this opportunity and I was very impressed with the facilities, along with the fact that the club's ideas match my own about how to play football.

"It was a big decision to move, as I've got a wife and three kids, but they have been very understanding and sometimes, as a coach, you have to take the opportunities when they come.

"When Swansea have played Colchester in the past, they have always been competitive games, so I'm looking forward to getting started."
