Kelvedon Go Close

3 March 2017

Local school represents the U's in Kids Cup.

Game three was our toughest game, we went down 3-0 to a very strong Wycombe Wanderers. Game four we drew 0-0 with Exeter City, Game five was followed with another 0-0 draw with Stevenage. We then ended strongly beating Plymouth Argyle 3-0.

In the first game, we drew 0-0 with Cambridge United, second game we beat Luton Town 2-0.

This lead them to represent Colchester United at the Area Finals at Wycombe Wanderers on Monday 27th February, where they were fortunate enough to play at Adams Park on the main pitch, home of Wycombe Wanderers FC.

Of 22 teams participating, they won that tournament without losing or drawing a game.

Earlier this year, Kelvedon St Mary entered the Colchester United FITC Kids Cup.

As a result, Kelvedon, representing the U's, progressed to the semi-finals where we met Leyton Orient.

They had won Group A convincingly without losing a match. We started well hitting the woodwork three times early on, Orient didn’t trouble our goal in regulation time.

We moved into 4 minutes of golden goal, we once again went close, but the Orient keeper kept them in the contest.

Leyton Orient they stole the win as penalties were looming through a good header.

The Colchester players were congratulated by the Head of Community at Wycombe on their resilience and ability to control themselves after defeat.

Wycombe went on to win the final 3-0 and progress to the next stage.

Thanks to Kelvedon St Marys for representing the U's so well!
