Rise To The Occasion

Boss wants U18s to seize the opportunity in cup clash

31 October 2017

Colchester United U18s Lead Coach Chris Llewellyn wants his players to rise to the occasion when they make their first appearance of the season at the Weston Homes Community Stadium on Tuesday night.

The U18s will venture into FA Youth Cup action on Tuesday, when they take on Cheshunt in the First Round clash.

And Chris is keen for his players to show what they can do when they take on an opponent that has scored 19 goals in four games to get to this stage.

The Welshman said: "Some have played in the competition before, and the FA Youth Cup is definitely one that you look forward to playing in.

"What’s more, it is a good chance for our U18s to play at the stadium and I’m hoping that they will rise to the occasion this evening.

"The boys will realise that there is pressure attached, both in terms of the performance levels and winning the game, and also in the contracts and progress at the club that may come off the back of a good run in the cup.

"Today is a real football match where people – both coaches and supporters - will be making judgements on them, so I am hoping that they will grasp it with both hands and this will be the start of something positive for them at the club."

Cheshunt have already faced East Anglian opposition in their cup run so far, having defeated AFC Sudbury to get to this stage of the competition.

And Chris is aware of the threats his side will face - but also wants his team to impose themselves on the match.

He added: "Our opposition have already played four games to get to this stage and we will of course give them the respect they deserve.

"But it is also important that we play our own game and make the match about us and not about them. We have had scout reports compiled on our opponents and now it is up to the team to take that information on board and put it to good use in the ninety minutes."

The game at the Weston Homes Community Stadium kicks off at 7pm and ticket prices are as follows:-

Adult: £7
Concessions (65+, disabled, Forces): £5
U18s: £5
U14s: £3

Please note that Season Ticket/Annual Subscription holders will need to purchase a ticket for this game.
