A tough weekend for U's loanees

18 September 2017

Colchester United's loan players had a tough weekend, as all but one were beaten with their respective teams.

Three of our players were in Emirates FA Cup action at the weekend, but all tasted defeat in the famous competition.

Dillon Barnes played 90 minutes and Eli Phipps 45 as Welling went out 2-1 to Haringey Borough in a surprise defeat to a team two levels below them.

There was better fortune for Charley Edge's Leamington side, as they progressed 2-0 over Westfields, but Charley was an unused substitute in the game in Herefordshire.

Up in Scotland, Denny Johnstone made his first start for St Johnstone, playing 51 minutes as the Saints unbeaten record finally came to an end against Dundee.

Meanwhile, Ryan Clampin played the whole game as Maldon & Tiptree fell to a narrow 2-1 defeat to AFC Hornchurch, who have now won all six league matches this season.
