Colchester United U23s drew 1-1 in their latest fixture on Thursday afternoon.
After a closely contested first half, it was the Addicks who went into the break in front after scoring from the spot.
Josh Umerah was fouled by U's goalie Dominic Kurasik, and he picked himself up to slot home the penalty.
However, the U's were level just after half time.
Ryan Gondoh (pictured) provided a dangerous cross and home defender Jo Cummings could only turn it into his own net.
There followed an eventful second half, with Charlton striking the woodwork twice and the U's having two goals disallowed, but they couldn't be separated by the time the final whistle blew.
