It's Time To Get Voting!

3 April 2018

It is now only just over a month until the winners of Colchester United’s awards are decided at our fantastic End of Season Dinner at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.

We will welcome fans, sponsors and of course the players and management team to the home of the U’s, as we unveil this year’s top achievers on the pitch, as well as around the local community.

As the event draws closer, you’re now able to register your votes for three of the awards that will be decided on the night.

Official Player of the Year (sponsored by Weston Homes)
Who has been your overall top player in a U’s shirt this season? In a year where we’ve been strong at the back, will it be a defender or goalie Sam Walker who’ll get the nod? Or has someone further up the pitch caught your eye?

Young Player of the Year (sponsored by The Millennials Coach)
The U’s take great pride in producing home grown talent and many of our Academy graduates have shone in the first team over the past nine months. But which player (aged 21 or under at the start of the season) do you think should lift the crown this time?

Goal of the Season
Which of the U’s goals this season have wowed you the most? Whether it was the perfect team goal or an absolute screamer from distance, all of our league and cup goals this season are under consideration!

This award is also available for sponsorship – take a look at our Gold Sponsor package below for more details!

HOW TO VOTE
You can send in your votes to media@colchesterunited.net with your name and contact telephone number, or write to us at Weston Homes Community Stadium, United Way, Colchester, Essex, CO4 5UP.

GUEST SPEAKER
This year, we will also be welcoming former Colchester United winger Perry Groves as our guest speaker.

Dynamic winger Perry broke through to the U’s first team nine days before his 17th birthday and didn’t look back from that point. His incredible speed made him a nuisance for opposition defenders and he wrote his name into U’s folklore with two hat-tricks against Southend in the space of eight weeks.

He moved to Arsenal as George Graham’s first signing in 1986, with the Gunners paying £50,000 for his services. He was a League Cup winner in 1987, setting up the crucial goal for Charlie Nicholas and appeared 21 times in the Arsenal title winning campaign of 1988/89.

Southampton was his next stop, as the Saints paid £750,000 for his services, before injury cut short his career.

He has since carved out an impressive media career as a pundit on all things football.
