Colchester United U15s progressed to the final of the Premier League U15s Floodlit Shield on Saturday, after a dramatic game against Southampton.
The Saints raced into an early 2-0 lead at the Weston Homes Community Stadium, but the U's youngsters showed great spirit to fight back and gain a foothold in the game.
Goals either side of half time from Harvey Sayer got the U's level, before it looked like the home side may have won it when Dylan Gray smacked home a loose ball late in the game.
Extra time couldn't separate the sides and, after the Saints missed their first penalty thanks to a save from goalkeeper Hayden West, the U's put away a perfect set of five with Donnell Thomas, Ben Steward, Jamahl Godward, Harvey Sayer and Todd Miller all finding the net to progress to a final against either Sunderland or Derby.
