Wolves Defeat U's U23s

6 August 2018

Colchester United's U23s concluded their friendly fixtures with a defeat on Monday morning, as they took on Premier League side Wolves' young stars.

The game did see Luke Norris get a valuable 45 minutes under his belt ahead of this weekend's visit of Port Vale to the JobServe Community Stadium.

The visitors took the lead after just two minutes as Niall Enniss was slipped through and put the ball past Ethan Ross.

Shortly after, Norris fired a free kick into the wall, but it was largely the visitors who offered an attacking threat and the U's defence had to work hard to repel their threat.

With twenty minutes on the clock, Dean Ager forced a good save out of the visiting goalkeeper, as the home side attempted to get back into the game.

Ryan Gondoh then fired just wide after his free kick came straight back to him, and Wolves took their lead into the break.

The visitors extended their advantage five minutes after the interval, as former loanee Ben Stevenson shot from the edge of the box to beat Ross with the aid of a deflection.

Two minutes later, it became three, as Benny Ashley-Seal made a powerful run down the left, and cut inside to fire a shot in off the post despite the best efforts of Ross.

Although the U's pressed late into the match, they were unable to find a way back into the match and it was a 3-0 scoreline by the time the final whistle blew.

U's: Ross, James, Kensdale, Rooney, Clampin, Gondoh, Chilvers, Issa, Sims, Ager, Norris
