Kurtis Nearing Return

Striker back in training after ankle injury

28 February 2018

U's forward Kurtis Guthrie should be back in contention sooner rather than later, as he makes good progress from his ankle injury.

Kurtis was taken off in the match against Carlisle in February, but has made decent progress since then and will be close to being in contention for the trip to Morecambe at the weekend.

Speaking in the Barnet programme at the weekend, physio Tony Flynn said: "Kurtis has missed the past two matches with a knock to the ankle, and the good news was that it was just the force of the impact, rather than any severe damage in there.

"The pain and discomfort has subsided and he was able to get out on the training ground this week.

"If there is no reaction to that work, he will be available for selection, because he wouldn't have lost too much fitness in the past two weeks."

The U's will be looking to bounce back from two recent defeats when they take on the Shrimps on Saturday and Sammie Szmodics will be another player hoping they are on the coach to Lancashire.

"Sammie Szmodics is the other who could come back into the reckoning," Tony added.

"He has been playing with some discomfort in his back, but it finally became too much and he had to sit out the game last weekend.

"A bit of complete rest has done him the world of good, and he was out on the training ground again this week."
