We Have To Bounce Back

Boss' frustrations at Barnet defeat

24 February 2018

U’s Head Coach John McGreal is adamant that his Colchester United side will bounce back from their 1-0 loss at home to Barnet on Saturday afternoon.

The manager was very open about his team’s performance, saying that it wasn’t the level of performance he or the players expected.

“From minute one, we tried to set and play with a positive tempo, but you’ve got to give Barnet a lot of credit for what they’ve come here and done today” the U’s boss told iFollow Col U.

“We changed the system for today’s game and it was working up until then [half time], we went out in the second half and made a constructive change by bringing on Dicko for Tom [Eastman], but it just didn’t work today.”

Barnet scored the only goal of the game in the second half, when Alex Nicholls swept a low shot past Sam Walker in the 66th minute.

“It’s a thoroughly disappointing performance, especially in front of our home fans who have seen us play well in recent games against Coventry and Newport. We didn’t deserve anything out of that game, Barnet deserved that win so well done to Graham and his team,” he continued.

The U’s had been in a good run of home form before today’s match, going unbeaten in three League Two games and picking up 7 out of 9 points.

“There’s no dressing it up, today was a poor performance and we have to bounce back. The team are a good bunch of lads and we know we haven’t produced what we’ve wanted to in the last couple of games.

“We’ve got a full week now to look back at the videos, get back to the drawing board and move forward, starting with the next match at Morecambe.”
