U's Have Plans In Mind

30 March 2018

Colchester United chairman Robbie Cowling believes the club are well placed with their preparations for next season, with plans already well underway.

Speaking at the Season Ticket Holders forum on Tuesday night, Robbie explained that work has been taking place over recent months to shape affairs for the 2018/19 campaign.

He said: "There is a lot that goes on with contracts that doesn’t always reach the public domain and we are busy negotiating at the moment with a number of players at the club.

"Some players who people may think are out of contract in the summer may not necessarily be, as the club will often have an option of an extra year that we can take up.

"We have been very good at setting up contracts that would allow us to do that if it was a player we'd like to keep in the future."

A number of first team players will have their futures decided in the coming months, but the U's are ready to replace any departures if required.

"We have been looking at players for the last couple of months," Robbie added.

"There will be a time limit on the offers we've made to the current players, as we need to keep moving forward."
