Colchester United midfielder Diaz Wright helped his Braintree side reach the National League South play-off semi-final on Wednesday night.
The Iron took on Hemel Hempstead for the right to take on Dartford and, after a tense 120 minutes of football, they progressed after winning 3-2 in the penalty shoot-out.
Diaz and his Braintree teammates will now travel to Kent on Sunday in the semi-final, with Chelmsford hosting Hampton & Richmond in the other semi.
Elsewhere, former U's duo Lewis Kinsella and Nicke Kabamba were defeated on penalties against Ebbsfleet in their National League Play-Off game.
And a Haringey Borough side featuring former U's pair Michael O'Donoghue and Tosin Olufemi defeated Heybridge Swifts in the Essex side's 71st game of the season to set up a game against Canvey Island in the Bostik North final.
