Seven Move On From U23s

More decisions made as the summer progresses

18 May 2018

A number of players have moved on from the club's Academy as the U's continue to shape their squads for next season.

Seven of last year's U23s are to depart from Florence Park, to give them a chance to find their way into senior football.

Tarryn Allarakhia, Charley Edge, Dom Kurasik, Eli Phipps, Josh Pollard, Callum Sturgess and JJ Wilson will all move onto pastures new.

Tarryn joined the U's after impressing at Maldon & Tiptree, playing regularly in the U's U23s last season.

Charley arrived two years ago from Everton, and made his first team debut against Crawley in February last year, before heading out on loan to Leamington and Needham Market this season.

Callum also spent time with Needham, playing regularly at left back for them this season after arriving at the U's from Crystal Palace last summer.

Dom arrived from Brentford and contested the U23s goalkeeping berth with Dillon Barnes, before playing regularly in that team towards the end of the season.

Eli arrived at the U's in January 2017 alongside Tommy O'Sullivan and enjoyed a loan spell at Welling as well as playing for the U's U23s.

JJ Wilson was a regular in the U's U18s before breaking through to the U23s over the last year.

And Josh is another who has enjoyed a taste of mens' football with Maldon & Tiptree and Harlow Town.

And Director of Football Tony Humes said: "The seven leaving us are undoubtedly talented footballers, but we haven't seen them push close enough to first team football.

"Players at this age need to be playing regularly in a first team at some level and we hope that they can make themselves a good career in the game.

"Josh has been with us for a number of years and we've seen him progress, including playing mens football at Maldon & Tiptree. Like the others, though, he needs to play regularly at this stage.

"We wish them all the best with the next steps in their footballing careers."
